DIstributed Computing Environments (DICE) Team
We are a group of computer scientists and IT experts from the Department of Computer Science AGH and ACC Cyfronet AGH. We are a curiosity- and research-driven team, specializing in large-scale distributed computing, HPC, Web and Cloud technologies. We develop new methods, tools and environments and we apply these solutions in e-Science, healthcare and industrial domains.

ACC CYFRONET AGH is a beneficiary of the EC competition within the EU H2020 program

The DICE Team of the Academic Computer Centre CYFRONET AGH, together with five Polish and foreign partners, will participate in the project aiming at development of a detailed plan of the new Centre of Excellence for New Methods in Computational Diagnostics and Personalised Therapy. The project, which will begin on 1 September 2017, will be financed by the European Commission with a sum of € 400,000 under the Horizon 2020 Teaming for Excellence mechanism.

The plan will be developed by two Polish partners: ACC CYFRONET AGH (experts in simulation and provisionig IT infrastructure for science) and LifeScience Cluster Kraków (Poland’s top cluster of industry, academia and hospitals for the life science domain), in collaboration with the University of Sheffield and the Insigneo Institute (experts in translation of in silico modelling and simulations to clinics), as well as Forschungszentrum Jülich (experts in modern HPC and data techniques, applied for science and industry) and Fraunhofer ISI (experts in systemic multi-domain solutions and innovation in healthcare). The coordinator of the project is the National Center for Research and Development.

The Centre of Excellence objectives will involve:

  • Development of new computation-based solutions for diagnostics and therapy in daily healthcare.
  • Systematic involvement of regional biomed businesses, specialising in technologies and services for personalised medicine, in high-profile research projects and clinical adoption of their outcome.
  • Development of education initiatives to train knowledge workers with the skills in data analytics, simulation, and HPC/Big Data, to respond to the growing demand for skilled workforce in medical devices and bio-engineering.
  • Strong advancement of algorithms, models and technologies involved in personalised medicine, including design of holistic, replicable, generic framework for simulation-based Decision Support Systems (DSS) creation.
